Is the Craigslist Killer based on a true story? ›

It follows the dark, mysterious life of murderer Philip Markoff. The film aired on Lifetime and is an adaptation of the true crime book A Date with Death: The Secret Life of the Accused "Craigslist Killer", written by Michele McPhee.

Only if you're bored. I have to give the film makers points for staying true to the story, almost everything they showed actually happened and they even used the real names. However, the lack of flair usually given to "based on true story" movies ultimately led it to not be that interesting.

Following the dark and haunting tale of Philip Markoff, a promising young med student who began a series of brutal attacks and murders.

The Craigslist Killer / Film synopsis

Philip Markoff was a second-year medical student at Boston University when he was arrested for the murder of masseuse and former call girl Julissa Brisman, who he met through a Craigslist ad.

Once Lee was identified as the primary suspect in these crimes, law enforcement located and captured him in Atlanta, Georgia. Lee waived extradition, and he was returned to Baton Rouge, where he was tried in August 2004 for the murder of Geralyn DeSoto.

The Secret Life: Jeffrey Dahmer

Based on the life of notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, who murdered 17 men and ate many of them before he was caught in 1991.

On August 15, 2010, Markoff died by suicide in Boston's Nashua Street Jail, where he was awaiting trial. Markoff was one of several criminals described by media outlets as the "Craigslist Killer", because the killer was alleged to have met his victims through ads placed on the internet site Craigslist.
