Did you know that textile waste is contributing to climate change? As textiles decompose in landfills, they release methane, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to #globalwarming and climate change. This effect can be especially significant considering the vast amounts of #textilewaste generated globally. The fashion industry is estimated to be responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions– more than international flights and maritime shipping combined.Making the switch to #prelovedfashion has many benefits, especially for your wallet but is this switch becoming a must to slow down global warming? What are your thoughts?

Global Warming - Environment – GHG Emissions – Maritime – Fashion/TextileMaritime industry is critical to the smooth functioning of economic activity around the world. A lot of attention has been focused on the emissions from the maritime industry which also contribute to global warming. The below are the steps maritime industry has taken to reduce GHG (Green House Gas) emissions.1.IMO – The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has set targets to reduce GHC emissions.2.Energy efficiency and optimization: Measures such as slow steaming, bulbous bows, and propeller and hull upgrades have helped reduce the carbon intensity of shipping by over 30% since 2008.3.Hybridization and all-electric drive trains: The development of hybrid and all-electric drive trains can help reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency.4.Investment in research, development, and innovation: The maritime industry is investing in various technologies, tools, and fuels to reduce emissions, such as the Green Shipping Challenge launched by the U.S. and Norwegian governments. There is another industry which can reduce GHC much more but has not been in focus. It is the fashion/textile industry. In a Bloomberg article titled ‘The Global Glut of Clothing is an Environment Crisis’, Rachel Dottle & Jackie Gu say that in the USA alone 11.3 tons of textile waste is thrown away each year – about 2,150 pieces of clothing is discarded every second. The worldwide figure is not available but, it must be substantially higher. Short fashion trend cycles promote ‘buy and dispose’ culture among consumers. The high end fashion houses destroy merchandise to maintain exclusivity. These type actions fuel GHG emissions. Fashion industry accounts for up to 10% of global CO2 output – more than international airline and shipping combined, according to UN environment programme. The question is, why is the fashion/textile industry not attracting attention when it is the second most polluting industry after oil?#ghgemissions #ghg #maritime #imo #fashion #textile #CO2 #pollution

This year I pledged to buy no more than 5 new items of clothing this year. We are nearly half way through the year and so far I haven't bought anything. The most sustainable item of clothing you can wear, is the one that is already in your wardrobe. How are you reducing your environmental impact today? With less than a decade to prevent catastrophic impacts from global warming, here's how Bloomberg is reducing its carbon emissions in line with a 1.5°C future. 👇Learn more in our latest Impact Report: https://bloom.bg/4eibWrq#ImpactInAction #Sustainability #bloomberg

Fast fashion industry is responsible for 10 percent of annual global emissions! The cost of being fashionable is far more than the price tag on that piece of clothing you’ve had your eye on. There’s also an air pollution price to pay. Globally, more than 80 billion items of clothing are purchased each year – the majority of which will be thrown in the trash. The World Resources Institute estimates that the so-called “fast fashion” industry annually releases about 1.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming. If the current trajectory continues, the industry’s share of annual carbon emissions may soar to 26 percent by 2050! #pollution #health #humanrights #globalwarming #misleadingads #jagograhakjago #consumersindia#climatechange #fastfashion #drjayashreeguptablog #heyconsumerhttps://lnkd.in/etky_8jQ

One of the best things we can do to be kind to the planet is reduce our waste and consumption 🌍A very simple way to take action is to grab your sewing kit.Looking after what we have, make do and mend!Sewing 🧵Fashion is one of the biggest contributing factors to the climate crisis. But basic sewing skills are a great climate action tool.Doing small fixes to items of clothes, helps them last longer.Reducing our waste. But also, reducing our consumption which not only protects the environment but helps us save money, who doesn't want to save a Bob or Two 💸Simple action is all it takes 💛#ClimateAction #ReduceWaste #EthicalFashionConsumption

Its July and normally trees are loaded with fruit this time of the year in Prague. This is a picture of an ‘Empty’ Apple Orchard! When these trees were in blossom, there were a few unexpected days of frost and unnatural weather anomaly in Spring, resulting in zero fruit. Farmers in the grape industry even tried to apply open fires in their vineyards but to no avail. If industries do not #Reinvent their thinking, business practices, products and customer offering to reduce global warming, we will experience these scenarios on a far bigger scale in future. The first step of getting started is not to talk about “Transformation” thats too much of a fashion statement - go into #Reinvention mode.!Whitewater Reinventions
