Crochet Single Stripe Heart Hot Pad - Daisy Farm Crafts (2025)

Crochet Single Stripe Heart Hot Pad - Daisy Farm Crafts (1)

Happy Valentine’s Day crochet friends! I’m sending you love wherever you are in this beautiful world. I have a darling little heart hot pad/pot holder pattern to share with you.

This would be a companion to the other single stripe hot pads I have made for Christmas. I have made a tree, candy cane, bow and now this heart. Here is an example photo of the the bow, which would be so cute for Valentine’s too I think.

It uses the same stitches but for this heart I am using a new yarn from Yarnspirations called Caron All Day Cotton. It is still 100% cotton but is actually easier for me to crochet with than Lily Sugar n’ Cream. It is mercerized and seems to slip through the hook easier.

This hot pad is double thick. I have made two panels and joined them together with single crochet. If you want even more heat protection I’ve also had it suggested to add a piece of cotton between the two layers. But for me, they seem to be thick enough.

However, having the hot pad double thick allows you to hide the ends in the middle. This also means that you don’t have to carry yarn through the row; you simply drop the yarn and then pick it up again across the back of the work. Here is a sample of what the inside of your hot pad will look like:

And then, here is a sample of what a plain side of the hot pad will look like:

I love using the herringbone half double crochet for hot pads because of the flatness and no holes look of the stitch. It is so similar to a double crochet. The difference is that after you yarn over, insert your hook and pull a loop back through the stitch, you also pull through the first loop on your hook. Then yarn over and pull through final two loops.

If you need a refresher, please watch the video clip below:

If you need more of a tutorial that helps you see how to change yarn colors and keep the yarn to the middle of the work, I’m going to point you to the video tutorials I already created for the Candy Cane. Please watch the tutorial linked below:

I’ll explain the rest in the pattern below. Be sure and scroll to the end for the free printable version! All our patterns here on the website have free printable pdf’s. And, most have video tutorials. Be sure and see our whole collection of hot pads and washcloths if you’d like more ideas.
