A former anchor plunged a knife into her 80-year-old mother, but the terrifying reason she claimed she had to do it ‘to save herself’ changes everything

A woman who used to work as a TV news anchor is now in jail after police say she killed her 80-year-old mother.

Angelynn “Angie” Mock, 47, worked at FOX 2 News in St. Louis years ago. Now she’s sitting in a Kansas jail cell, facing a murder charge and a $1 million bond following a tragic incident at her home on Friday morning.

According to Fox News, police received a call around 7:50 a.m. and rushed to the residence. When officers arrived, they found Mock standing outside, her hands covered in cuts. Inside the home, the situation was much more severe. Officers discovered Mock’s mother, Anita Avers, lying in her bed. She had been stabbed multiple times and was not breathing.

Paramedics quickly transported Anita to the hospital, but doctors were unable to save her.

This entire situation has left many people puzzled. Neighbors who witnessed the event described the scene as haunting. One neighbor, Alyssa Castro, recounted how Mock approached their car that morning, covered in blood, asking them to call 911. She then grabbed Castro’s phone and ran back inside the house. Shortly after, Mock herself called the police and reportedly admitted to “stabbing [her] mother to save herself,” according to emergency call responders in Sedgwick County.

Medical personnel treated Mock’s hand injuries at the hospital before law enforcement took her into custody. She faces a charge of first-degree murder.

At this time, the motive behind this violent act remains unclear. Police have not released any information regarding what might have led Mock to harm her own mother.

Before this tragic event, Mock had a notable career in television. She was a morning news anchor at FOX 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015 and also worked at another station in Oklahoma City. According to her LinkedIn profile, she had moved away from TV journalism and was working in sales for a tech company when her arrest occurred.

Residents of the neighborhood are still grappling with the shocking incident. Castro described how terrifying it was to see Mock that morning, covered in blood and urgently seeking help—a moment that will likely stay with them for a long time.

This case adds to a disturbing list of family violence incidents that have alarmed communities across the country.
