SNL Brings Back Shane Gillis And Ramy Youssef For NYC Mayoral Debate — Watch

“Saturday Night Live” comes to us live from New York, so of course this week’s episode had to tackle next week’s NYC mayoral election. To do so, they brought back a few old friends to join the fun.

Saturday’s episode, hosted by Miles Teller, opened with a fake mayoral debate featuring leading candidates Zohran Mamdani, Andrew Cuomo, and Curtis Sliwa. Host Teller took on the role of Cuomo, while past “SNL” hosts Ramy Youssef and Shane Gillis popped in to play Mamdani and Sliwa, respectively.

Cuomo quickly established himself as a true-blue New Yorker, boasting, “I know this city like the back of a woman’s back. Mamma mia!” Mamdani aimed to reassure voters about supporting a Muslim democratic socialist by simply smiling a lot. Meanwhile, Sliwa entertained with wild stories of his past brushes with death, such as when “I was poured into the foundation of Giants Stadium and crawled my way out.”

Kenan Thompson’s moderator character kept the debate lively, peppering the candidates with hard-hitting questions like, “Why would you want the worst job in the world?” and “What’s your go-to bagel order?” Naturally, the candidates veered off-script: Mamdani even addressed the camera TikTok-style, with hearts dancing around him.

Cuomo received a hand from Kam Patterson’s Eric Adams, though he looked like he would rather not have the cameras catch him standing next to Adams.

Overall, the sketch humorously captured the chaotic and colorful nature of New York’s mayoral race, blending sharp satire with memorable performances.
