Booker T is one of the best parts of NXT and is beloved by fans for his insightful commentary. However, the WWE Legend found himself at the center of controversy during the recent NXT Halloween Havoc Premium Live Event. Following an incident at the show, the former World Heavyweight Champion has issued a public apology.
At Halloween Havoc, Ricky Starks defended his NXT Championship against Trick Williams in what marked Starks’ first title defense. After an intense and hard-fought match, Starks successfully retained the championship. However, the outcome of the match left Booker T visibly upset. In a moment of frustration, he threw his headset at the end of the main event.
Booker T later addressed the incident, apologizing to the NXT Universe for his actions. He explained, “I wanna apologise to the NXT Universe for throwing my headset at the end of the Ricky Starks vs. Trick Williams match. I was a little upset, I was backing my boy Trick Williams, but Ricky Starks showed up and went out there and did his job, even though he had the little Xerxes veil going. I just wanted to apologise because that got picked up in the news. Look here, we’ve all got our favourites, it’s just part of the game.” (Commentary from 6:40 onwards)
It’s great to see commentators getting so emotionally involved after a match, reflecting their passion for the product. Fans are now eagerly anticipating what Shawn Michaels has planned for Ricky Starks’ reign as NXT Champion.
In other news, Booker T recently shared his reaction to one of WWE’s more surprising roster decisions. WWE’s release of Wes Lee shocked many fans and insiders alike. Lee was one of the most talented stars on the NXT roster and consistently had a prominent presence on the show’s programming.
Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T expressed his disbelief over Lee’s departure, saying, “Wes Lee is a guy that’s highly, highly talented. Wes Lee is a guy that I would have thought would have been safe.”
The news was met with disappointment by many fans who recognized Lee’s potential. It will be interesting to see where Wes Lee’s career takes him next following his release from WWE.
