Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs move to 4-0 with a 121-103 win over the Raptors

SAN ANTONIO — Victor Wembanyama delivered a dominant performance with 24 points and 15 rebounds as the San Antonio Spurs secured a 121-103 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Monday night. This win keeps the Spurs undefeated at 4-0, marking their best start to a season since 2017.

Stephon Castle contributed 22 points, while Harrison Barnes added 18 for San Antonio. Notably, the Spurs had not won their fourth game this early in a season since November 7 of last year.

Toronto, meanwhile, suffered its third consecutive loss following a win in their season opener. R.J. Barrett led the Raptors with 25 points, Collin Murray-Boyles scored 19, and Immanuel Quickley chipped in 15.

Wembanyama, who was named Western Conference Player of the Week earlier Monday, continued to impress fans with his agility and skill. In the first half, he drove past Jakob Poeltl to the rim, executed a 360-degree spin to evade a charging Scottie Barnes, and finished with a smooth layup off the glass. He was highly efficient, shooting 7 of 8 from the field and going a perfect 10 for 10 from the free-throw line.

Barrett scored 10 points in the third quarter after a contentious moment early in the second half, when he protested a foul by Julian Champagnie on a blocked layup attempt. Later in the game, Barrett’s dunk off a steal narrowed the Spurs’ lead to 101-93 with just under eight minutes remaining, but Toronto was unable to close the gap any further.

Defensively, Wembanyama made history by blocking Barrett’s layup with 3:59 left in the game, marking his 89th straight game with at least one blocked shot. This streak breaks a tie with Patrick Ewing for the fourth-longest run in NBA history. Ewing holds the all-time record with 145 consecutive games with a block, followed by Dikembe Mutombo (116) and Mark Eaton (94).

San Antonio showcased balanced scoring with six players reaching double figures and extended their winning streak against Toronto to four games. Both teams were playing on the second night of back-to-back games, but the Spurs still managed to open a double-digit lead in the first quarter.

Looking ahead, the Toronto Raptors will host the Houston Rockets on Wednesday, while the San Antonio Spurs are set to take on the Miami Heat at home on Thursday.
