Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said he believes President Trump is attempting to transition the country into “something much closer to a totalitarian state.”
In an interview on CNN’s *State of the Union*, the outspoken Trump critic expressed concern that the ongoing government shutdown is enabling Trump to exercise more “king-like powers” and make decisions that should otherwise undergo proper checks and balances.
Murphy warned that this concentration of power poses serious risks to democratic governance and called for renewed efforts to uphold constitutional norms.
