An Otisfield man has been charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and aggravated assault after shooting an AR-15 style rifle in the direction of a woman and injuring her hand on Saturday.
On October 25 at approximately 7:10 p.m., the Oxford County Regional Communication Center received a call reporting that a woman had been shot outside a residence on Bell Hill Road in Otisfield, according to a release from the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.
The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, along with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police, Oxford and Norway Police Departments, Otisfield Fire Department, and ambulance services.
Emergency responders found the 28-year-old victim, who had been shot in the hand. She was treated at the scene before being transported to Stephens Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, identified as 38-year-old John K. Pottle Jr. of Otisfield, reportedly fired an AR-15 style rifle in the vicinity of the victim in a reckless manner, resulting in her injury.
After the incident, authorities seized Pottle’s firearm. He was arrested and booked at Oxford County Jail. He now faces charges of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and aggravated assault.
