Senior Vanderbilt edge rusher exits Missouri game with injury

The No. 10 Vanderbilt Commodores currently hold a late 17-10 lead over the No. 15 Missouri Tigers in the fourth quarter, as the program aims to improve to a 7-1 record on the season. However, the Commodores may have suffered a significant setback on the defensive side during the contest.

With just over seven minutes remaining in the game, edge rusher Khordae Sydnor was seen holding his ankle after a play, according to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports. Sydnor was helped off the field by trainers and did not return. Nakos tweeted, “Vanderbilt EDGE Khordae Sydnor is being tended to by trainers and limps off the field. Huge piece of the Commodores’ defense with 2.5 sacks this season.”

As of just over a minute remaining in the contest, Sydnor has yet to return, and there are no updates on the severity of his injury. It remains unclear how serious the issue is, but Vanderbilt is expected to provide more information in the coming days.

With Sydnor sidelined, the Commodores are relying on redshirt junior Linus Zunk to fill the edge rusher role. If Sydnor is forced to miss additional time, Zunk will likely step in as the starter, while Hayden Bra could also see increased playing time.

Khordae Sydnor is a redshirt senior who transferred to Vanderbilt ahead of the 2024-25 season after spending his first three collegiate years with the Purdue Boilermakers. Since joining the Commodores, Sydnor has become a key component of their defense. This season, he has recorded 18 combined tackles (nine solo), 6.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and a fumble recovery.

Vanderbilt fans will be hoping for a quick recovery for Sydnor as the Commodores look to maintain their strong defensive presence down the stretch.
