Of course it’s Luka Doncic who kickstarts Lakers’ 2025-26 season

Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers kicked off the 2025-26 NBA season by hosting Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors at Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday. This marks Doncic’s first full campaign with the Lakers since the blockbuster trade with the Dallas Mavericks in February, and fans are eagerly anticipating another masterful all-around performance.

It was only fitting that the 26-year-old guard made the Lakers’ first basket of the new season. Just seconds into the first quarter, Doncic nailed a 13-foot jump shot after shaking off the tight defense of Jonathan Kuminga at the left elbow. The shot set the tone for what is expected to be a standout season for the young star.

During the offseason, Doncic underwent a notable physical transformation, emphasizing his commitment to leading the Purple and Gold. Despite facing criticism last season regarding his weight and conditioning, Doncic has maintained that he is fit and healthy, ready to carry the team.

Doncic will face a heavy burden to start the season, especially with LeBron James sidelined for several weeks due to a sciatica injury. Last season, in 28 games for the Lakers, the Slovenian playmaker averaged an impressive 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.5 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.

The Lakers finished last season with a strong 50-32 record, earning the second seed in the playoffs—their best since the 2019-2020 season. Unfortunately, they were eliminated in the first round by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

As of writing, the Warriors are leading the Lakers in the second quarter. Doncic has already contributed 14 points and five rebounds, while teammate Austin Reaves has added 10 points, three rebounds, and three assists.

Fans will be watching closely as Luka Doncic continues to showcase his leadership and skill, aiming to guide the Lakers deeper into the playoffs this season.
