York Fire rescues person from overturned boat in York Harbor

The York Fire Department successfully rescued an individual from the water at the mouth of York Harbor after their boat flipped on Saturday.

At 12:01 p.m., the fire department was dispatched following a report of an overturned boat and a person in the water near the harbor entrance, according to a social media post from the department. A rescue boat was quickly deployed and located the capsized vessel.

Assisted by the Maine Marine Patrol, the York Fire Department’s crew rescued the individual who was holding onto the side of the overturned boat. The person was then brought safely back to shore and evaluated by EMS.

The department’s social media post highlighted that, in addition to their weekly firefighting and rescue training, the York Fire Department conducts bi-weekly water rescue drills during the summer months.

“This successful rescue highlights the importance of training, coordination, and rapid response,” the post added.
