‘Going to be bad for them’: George Conway exposes 2 ways GOP is panicking over ‘No Kings’

Top Republicans have been repeatedly attacking the nationwide planned October 18 “No Kings” protests, labeling them as “hate America rallies.” However, conservative attorney George Conway argues that the GOP’s staunch opposition reveals a deeper fear of the protests in two significant ways.

As reported by The Washington Post, key Republican leaders—including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), and House Republican Conference Chair Lisa McClain (R-Mich.)—have criticized the upcoming demonstrations and likened participants to terrorists.

“I bet you you’ll see Hamas supporters, I bet you’ll see Antifa types, I bet you’ll see the Marxists on full display, the people who don’t want to stand and defend the foundational truths of this republic,” Johnson said on Friday.

In a Friday segment on MSNBC, George Conway offered a revealing take on the Republican attacks. During the discussion on “The Weeknight,” co-host Michael Steele—former chairman of the Republican National Committee—asked Conway about Republicans “silently watching” as former President Donald Trump directed the Department of Justice to prosecute his political opponents.

Conway acknowledged the “crucial moment” the U.S. is facing and condemned media voices that downplay criticisms of Trump’s tactics as “authoritarian” and “fascist.”

“We’ve seen nothing but that ever since the prosecution of political enemies, soldiers on the streets,” Conway said. “The attempt to divide, demonize the enemy, calling them terrorists, people calling people who are just marching in the streets, terrorist supporters and Antifa and Hamas and all that stuff. And it is really, really insane.”

He continued, “You have a bunch of people who are lying liars who lie, and they continue to lie,” referring to Republicans. “They’re lying about the protests. They’re saying, ‘oh, these are going to be violent.’ They’re trying to do two things. One is, they’re trying to delegitimize something that they know is going to be bad for them. And the second thing is they’re trying to deter people from showing up.”

Conway emphasized that these efforts have had the opposite effect. “It’s sort of like the way Trump is with selling books for the people who write about him. He trashes the book and the book ends up at the top of the charts! And that’s what’s happening tomorrow.”
