**Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi Faces Legal Setback as Jamnagar Sessions Court Dismisses Cheque-Bouncing Appeal**
Renowned filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi, celebrated for directing iconic films such as *Ghayal*, *Damini*, and *Andaz Apna Apna*, has encountered a significant legal hurdle. On Thursday, October 15, the Jamnagar sessions court dismissed his appeal in a cheque-bouncing case, upholding an earlier conviction by the Special Negotiable Instruments Court in Jamnagar.
### Background of the Case
The case originates from a loan of Rs. 1 crore allegedly extended to Santoshi by businessman Ashok Lal. To repay this amount, Santoshi issued post-dated cheques of Rs. 10 lakh each. However, when Lal presented these cheques for clearance, the bank returned them unpaid due to insufficient funds, leading to the dishonour of the cheques.
Following this, Lal approached the Special Negotiable Instruments Court, which ruled in his favour. Santoshi was convicted under the provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act. The court ordered him to repay double the cheque amount and sentenced him to two years of imprisonment.
### Latest Developments
Challenging this order, Rajkumar Santoshi filed an appeal in the Jamnagar sessions court. After reviewing the evidence and previous ruling, the sessions court dismissed his appeal and upheld the conviction.
The court has now instructed Santoshi to appear before it by October 27. Should he fail to comply, an arrest warrant will be issued.
### Impact and Current Status
This ruling adds to the growing list of legal challenges faced by Santoshi in recent years. The filmmaker, a stalwart of the Hindi film industry for over thirty years, has yet to make any public comments regarding the court’s latest decision.
On the professional front, Santoshi is currently working on **Lahore 1947**, produced by Aamir Khan. The film features an ensemble cast including Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, and Karan Deol.
### What’s Next?
With the sessions court affirming the conviction, Santoshi’s legal options appear limited unless he seeks relief from a higher court before the specified deadline.
