Star Wars Galaxies rogue server Legends is kinda cracking down on (public) ERP

In case you weren’t aware, MMORPGs have long been places where people engage in all kinds of roleplay — including erotic roleplay (ERP). This tradition predates even the term MMORPG itself. Many games known for their strong roleplaying communities, such as *City of Heroes*, *World of Warcraft*, and *Final Fantasy XIV*, also have underground ERP scenes. *Star Wars Galaxies* (SWG) is no exception, and naturally, its rogue servers are part of that history as well.

Traditionally, most ERP in these games is harmless and stays under the radar. Apart from the occasional giggle and mistell, many players likely don’t even notice it because it tends to remain underground. However, recently one *Star Wars Galaxies* rogue server announced a crackdown on ERP — a notable shift after 22 years of ERP existing in *Star Wars* MMOs.

### New Policy on Sexually Explicit Content

The player-developers behind SWG: Legends announced last week:

> **EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY:** Sexually explicit content is strictly prohibited on SWG: Legends. This includes posting, sharing, or engaging in any sexually explicit content or behavior, including erotic roleplay or suggestive interactions across any of our services (in-game, Discord, etc.).

They warned that violations of this policy could result in disciplinary action, up to and including account suspension or removal from the community. The Terms of Service and Code of Conduct will be updated to reflect these changes.

### A Curious Move in a Rare Genre

This announcement struck many as odd. MMORPGs are a genre notorious for ERP, and *Star Wars Galaxies* is set in a universe filled with fascism, genocide, war, and daily murder — yet ERP is now being singled out on a server that technically has no legal right to exist. Naturally, we dug deeper, chatting with players and devs to understand why 2025 is suddenly the moment for this shift.

### What Sparked the Change?

According to some players on Discord, the new restrictions stemmed from a series of bans that led to retaliation and a broader investigation into ERPers. However, SWG Legends admin Lokee told me directly that this accusation is completely unfounded. Instead, the rule is a response to increased visibility of openly sexually explicit scenarios occurring within the game.

Lokee could not elaborate on what “increased visibility” means specifically but assured that no bans have been issued under this new rule as of yet. So far, only warnings have been given, all within the past year, and none since the rule change took effect:

> “We are not looking to ban or remove anyone from the game. Immediate bans are reserved for only the most severe rule violations (credit selling, racism, extreme forms of harassment). Players receive warnings and multiple chances to correct their behavior.”

### Community Questions and Concerns

Still, over the last week, several players have expressed concerns — including some who aren’t even particularly interested in ERP. Questions abound:

– What exactly qualifies as sexually explicit in an MMORPG that includes marriage, sexy dances, flirting emotes, the infamous Sarlacc Pit, and outfits ranging from the iconic Princess Leia bikini to a fleshwrap that is literally a ribbon around your body?
– Is shouting phrases like “fuck me” or “balls-deep” a bannable offense?
– Is flirting off-limits?
– What about stating your sexual orientation?

These kinds of policies have raised fears, especially since similar rules have been used in the United States to suppress LGBTQ+ communities. Lokee was clear that this is not the intent on SWG: Legends.

### Official Explanation from the Devs

Lokee provided a more thorough statement, beyond what was available on Discord:

> “SWG: Legends is a space for creativity, nostalgia, and shared adventure. Sexually Explicit Content undermines that experience and will not be tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to, any content or behavior that is sexually charged, graphically intimate, or intended to arouse.

> “We understand some players want detailed examples of what this policy entails. We intentionally avoid listing specific scenarios to prevent loopholes and ensure consistent enforcement. If you’re unsure whether something crosses the line, we encourage erring on the side of caution or reaching out to staff privately.

> “This rule update won’t affect the majority of the community. However, we have seen an increase in reports of behavior inside the game that falls outside the bounds of good conduct. Until now, our policies around sexually explicit content were limited to Discord, leaving a gap in coverage. Adding an official rule allows us to moderate fairly and take appropriate action if a player steps out of bounds.

> “Nobody is coming after anyone’s sexual identity, LGBTQ guilds, or anything of that nature. I take great pride (no pun intended) in being fully supportive of our LGBTQ family. I would never take such a stance.”

### How Is Enforcement Handled?

Some players wondered who on the staff actually has time to police private chats for “naughty” behavior. The answer is, no one signed up to be “the sexy funtimes police.” In fact, administrators cannot see private conversations at all.

Instead, enforcement relies primarily on spatial logs (open, public chat) and reports submitted by players. If offensive content appears in public spaces, players are encouraged to use profanity filters—which will be expanded—and to block problematic users.

Players are also asked not to hassle staff with fake reports, as the team treats report harassment as seriously as any other form of harassment.

### Final Clarification from the Developers

After issuing statements to Massively OP, the devs clarified:

> “In other words, you’re probably safe as long as you keep your content private — just like on most MMORPG servers.”

So if you want to avoid trouble, the best advice is simple: keep ERP and sexually explicit content out of public spaces, respect community guidelines, and enjoy your adventure in *Star Wars Galaxies: Legends* responsibly.

*Stay tuned for further updates as the community and developers navigate these new policies.*
