In a crucial encounter at the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup held at Baraspara Stadium, Guwahati, Bangladesh’s Sobhana Mostary played a commendable innings against England, scoring a vital half-century to anchor her team’s batting effort.
Mostary’s resilient knock of 60 runs off 108 balls came at a time when Bangladesh was grappling with a lower-order collapse, struggling at 85 for 4. Her determined batting helped Bangladesh post a total of 178 runs, providing much-needed stability amidst early setbacks.
However, despite her valiant effort, Bangladesh was eventually bowled out in just under 50 overs. Lower-order batter Rabeya Khan chipped in with a lively, counter-attacking unbeaten 43 runs off 27 balls, injecting some late momentum into the innings.
### Match Overview
Bangladesh’s innings got off to a rocky start as England bowlers Lauren Bell and Linsey Smith struck early blows in the first powerplay. Bell dismissed Rubya Haider in the fifth over, swiftly followed by Smith sending back captain Nigar Sultana for a duck in the sixth over.
Sharmin Akhter and Mostary briefly steadied the innings at 31 for 2 after the powerplay, but wickets continued to tumble. Akhter’s 30 runs provided some resistance before she was dismissed soon after.
Following the fall of Shorna Akter to Charlie Dean, Bangladesh struggled to maintain the scoring rate. Ritu Moni and Mostary found it difficult to break free from tight bowling and Moni’s dismissal in the 34th over left Bangladesh precariously placed at 108 for 5.
Mostary remained a pillar of strength, but the middle and lower order failed to capitalize. Fahima Khatun showed some resistance but couldn’t make a big impact. Mostary finally fell in the 47th over, caught by Alice Capsey after a well-fought 60-run innings which included eight boundaries.
### Career Milestone for Mostary
