Angus Eve back in the mix, hired as Trinidad and Tobago women’s football coach

**Angus Eve Back in the Mix, Hired as Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Football Coach**

Former Trinidad and Tobago men’s national football team coach Angus Eve has been appointed as the head coach of the country’s women’s national team, just weeks ahead of the start of the 2025/26 CONCACAF W Qualifiers. This competition serves as the qualifying tournament for both the 2026 CONCACAF W Championship and the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Eve’s appointment was confirmed by Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) officials on September 30. However, no official press release or public announcement had been made available up to press time. When contacted for comment regarding the appointment, Eve referred inquiries to the TTFA.

Joining Eve on the coaching staff is another former national player, Densill Theobald, who will serve as one of the assistant coaches. Theobald, currently head coach of the men’s national under-15 team, led Defence Force to a TT Premier Football League double in the 2024/25 season, guiding the team through an unbeaten campaign. Notably, he resigned unexpectedly from his role at Defence Force in July 2024.

This marks a significant return for Eve to the national football setup. Additionally, this season he resumed coaching duties at Naparima College with renewed energy during the 2025 Secondary Schools Football League season, leading his team to four victories from four games in the premier division.

Eve’s return to national coaching follows the TTFA’s decision to part ways with him as the men’s team head coach in July last year. Originally, he was appointed on an interim basis prior to the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup preliminaries. Under his guidance, the men’s team earned a hard-fought goalless draw against regional powerhouse Mexico in the tournament’s opening game. Although Trinidad and Tobago finished the Gold Cup group stage with two points and were eliminated, Eve was subsequently confirmed as the permanent head coach by the FIFA-appointed Normalisation Committee overseeing the TTFA at that time.

In August 2023, Eve’s contract was extended from September 2023 to March 2024, and a further extension at the start of 2024 was expected to cover the duration of the men’s team’s FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. However, on July 31, 2024, the TTFA announced the termination of their relationship with Eve after the men’s team earned four points from their first two matches in the second round of World Cup qualifiers.

On November 1, 2024, Dwight Yorke was appointed as the new head coach of the men’s national team.

Having recently coached Club Sando to the TT Women’s League Football (WoLF) title in July 2024, Eve and his new coaching staff face the immediate task of preparing the women’s team for the upcoming CONCACAF W Qualifiers. The tournament kicks off in November 2025, with Trinidad and Tobago set to play their opening match away against Barbados.

Trinidad and Tobago are grouped in Group F alongside Barbados, El Salvador, and Honduras. The team’s second fixture will be away to El Salvador in March 2026, followed by a home game against Honduras in April 2026.

At the conclusion of the CONCACAF W Qualifiers group stage, the six group winners will advance to join top-seeded United States and Canada for the CONCACAF W Championship, scheduled for November 2026. This championship will follow an eight-team knockout format.

The four quarterfinal winners of the CONCACAF W Championship will qualify directly for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, while the four losing quarterfinalists will compete in a pair of play-in matches. The two winners of these play-ins will then vie for a spot in an intercontinental playoff tournament.

The Trinidad and Tobago women’s national team program had been largely dormant after the expiration of former coach Richard Hood’s contract at the end of June 2024. Earlier, in July 2025, TTFA president Kieron Edwards revealed that Richard Hood, Ross Russell, and veteran Serbian coach Zoran Vranes were among over 20 candidates considered for the women’s team coaching position.

Attempts to reach TTFA president Kieron Edwards, first vice-president Colin Murray, and third vice-president Jameson Rigues for comment on the appointment of the new women’s team coach were unsuccessful.
