Police have identified the suspect involved in a recent chain collision as Tomohiro Imakita, a 33-year-old part-time worker from Eniwa City. Authorities allege that Imakita caused the multi-vehicle crash by recklessly driving and crashing into several cars near the Hana Road Eniwa roadside rest area.
After the collision, Imakita abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot, covering approximately three kilometers from the crash site. He eventually entered the premises of a nearby factory.
Security camera footage captured the dramatic pursuit, showing Imakita running through the factory grounds with several officers close behind. About 30 seconds after being cornered, police subdued and arrested him on the spot for trespassing.
The pursuit and arrest occurred roughly two and a half hours after the initial collision. The footage shows officers tackling Imakita from behind to bring him into custody.
Police suspect that Imakita was responsible for initiating the accident through erratic driving. Investigators are currently examining any potential connections between the collision and his actions following the crash.
So far, Imakita has remained silent during questioning.
