**MPSC State Services Preliminary Exam Postponed to November 9 Due to Floods in Maharashtra**
In response to the appeals from Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) aspirants, the commission has decided to postpone the upcoming State Services Preliminary Examination originally scheduled for September 28. The exam will now be held on November 9.
Severe floods across Maharashtra have wreaked havoc, causing significant logistical challenges. Many aspirants have also lost their study materials, prompting calls for postponement. Besides the MPSC exam, the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) exams, initially set for September 25 and 26, have also been postponed considering the difficulties posed by the floods.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds ranging from 30 to 50 km/h between September 25 and 28. These weather conditions are expected to bring heavy rainfall under generally cloudy skies, leading to waterlogging and disrupted transportation, further hindering students’ ability to reach exam centers.
The demand for postponement gained strong support from political figures, including Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Member of Parliament Supriya Sule. Sule highlighted the academic setbacks faced by students, saying, “The ongoing heavy rains across the state have caused great damage to students academically. Libraries are closed, and study materials have been damaged. Apart from this, the transport system is also disrupted, and vehicles cannot reach many places.”
She further appealed, “At present, it is unlikely that students from Marathwada will be able to reach the examination centres on time. Therefore, the students are demanding that this examination be postponed for some time and that it be conducted after the situation returns to normal. I request that the government please take the students’ views into consideration and make a decision regarding postponing the examination.”
The commission’s decision to defer the exams aims to ensure that all candidates have a fair opportunity to prepare and appear for these crucial tests without the added stress of adverse weather and logistical hurdles.
