Jeremy Corbyn has admitted that the new political group has “not covered ourselves in glory” following a bitter feud at the top, as he relaunched the fledgling organisation’s membership portal.
In a video message, the former Labour leader and Independent MP for Islington North apologised to supporters for the confusion that delayed progress. He urged members to move on and sign up as founding members ahead of the party’s inaugural conference in November.
### Feud Between Corbyn and Zarah Sultana
A public spat erupted last week between Mr Corbyn and Zarah Sultana after she promoted a payment system for the new political outfit, which Corbyn disowned as an unauthorised email.
Mr Corbyn acknowledged the tension, saying:
*“We’ve had some fraught days in the last week, as you will no doubt be very aware. And to be honest, we haven’t covered ourselves in glory.”*
This disagreement prompted Ms Sultana to claim she faced a “sexist boys club” and initially instructed specialist defamation lawyers to take action. However, she later dropped the legal proceedings and vowed to reconcile with Mr Corbyn.
### Official Membership Portal Relaunched
On Wednesday, Jeremy Corbyn officially launched the group’s membership portal. He emphasised unity and a shared vision for the movement’s future:
*“What is most important is this: We all agree about the plans for the conference and the road map to get to it. Before all the commotion last week, the plans themselves were warmly welcomed right across our movement.”*
He added:
*“People desperately want the chance for a real alternative, an alternative to poverty, to war and injustice. So let’s get on with it. Today you can turn your support into real membership. Our official membership portal is now open.”*
Apologising once again for the earlier confusion, Corbyn said:
*“To all our supporters, I’m sorry for the confusion in getting to this point. Together, all of us, let’s move on to the next stage.”*
He also assured members that their data and payment details would be securely managed.
### Background and Next Steps
Last week, Mr Corbyn told people to cancel any direct debits set up in response to Ms Sultana’s membership drive. In light of the data collection and payments taken during this time, the group referred itself to the UK’s data protection watchdog.
The party, still without an official name, announced its founding conference will be held in Liverpool on November 29 and 30. Your Party is viewed as a potential challenger to Labour, Reform UK, and the Green Party.
As the new political movement moves forward, the leadership hopes to present a united front and offer a clear alternative to traditional choices in the UK political landscape.
