NHL insider bluntly dismisses Kirill Kaprizov to Rangers buzz despite rejecting record-breaking $128M Wild’s extension offer

Minnesota Wild superstar Kirill Kaprizov is unlikely to head to Broadway, according to a notable insider report on Tuesday. During a September 23 appearance on B/R Open Ice, NHL insider Frank Seravalli shut down any rumors suggesting Kaprizov could be traded to the New York Rangers.

Addressing the ongoing contract saga involving Kaprizov, Seravalli was asked about the chances of the star winger joining the Rangers. He responded plainly: “What are the odds of Kaprizov going to the New York Rangers at this point in time? Zero. Absolutely zero. I have no indication right now that the Wild are open to making a trade to move Kaprizov before this season starts.”

It’s worth noting that Kaprizov reportedly turned down the Wild’s eight-year, $128 million contract offer earlier in the offseason. Although both the Wild organization and Kaprizov’s camp have denied trade rumors, this stalemate has left both sides at an impasse.

Despite swirling rumors around the league, Seravalli emphasized: “As a result of these negotiations reaching a standstill, they can always change in one minute, but I still think that the player in this case has made it his priority and preference to be part of the Wild.”

These comments suggest an amicable resolution may be on the horizon between the Wild and Kaprizov. However, it remains unclear when a new deal will be finalized. In the meantime, there appears to be no realistic chance of Kaprizov ending up with another club this season.

### Wild Deny Kirill Kaprizov Trade List Request

One of the prevailing rumors in recent weeks claimed that the Wild asked Kaprizov to submit a trade list—a list of teams he would be willing to accept a trade to. The Wild have adamantly denied this.

According to a report from RG Media dated September 13, the Wild never asked Kaprizov to submit such a list. The club reiterated its strong desire to keep the 28-year-old star on the roster.

Kaprizov will become an unrestricted free agent (UFA) next summer, which adds pressure on the Wild to finalize a contract extension soon. The primary risk is that Kaprizov could walk away from the team without any compensation. However, this risk does not appear to be enough for the Wild to entertain trading him at this time.

While multiple teams might express interest, the Wild are focused on retaining their Russian superstar moving forward.
