The Last of Us series co-creator Craig Mazin has partnered with Hasbro Entertainment to create a TV show for HBO based on *Baldur’s Gate 3*, Larian Studios’ award-winning RPG, as reported by Deadline. The show, on which Mazin serves as co-creator, writer, executive producer, and showrunner, is simply titled *Baldur’s Gate*. Its story will pick up where *Baldur’s Gate 3* left off.
The series will feature both new characters and familiar faces, although no details have been released yet about which characters will appear or who will portray them. Since a *Baldur’s Gate 4* is not currently in development, Mazin is expected to have considerable creative freedom when it comes to the show’s storyline.
To ensure the series remains true to its Dungeons & Dragons roots, Wizards of the Coast head of story Chris Perkins will serve as a consultant on set.
Mazin, who is a devoted fan of the game, revealed that he invested “nearly 1,000 hours into the incredible world of *Baldur’s Gate 3*,” according to a statement he gave to Deadline. He expressed his excitement about working on the project:
> “It is a dream come true to be able to continue the story that Larian and Wizards of the Coast created. I am a devoted fan of D&D and the brilliant way that Swen Vincke and his gifted team adapted it. I can’t wait to help bring *Baldur’s Gate* and all of its incredible characters to life with as much respect and love as we can. I’m deeply grateful to Gabe Marano and his team at Hasbro for entrusting me with this incredibly important property.”
Francesca Orsi, HBO’s head of drama programming, shared her enthusiasm for the collaboration:
