Suspected car thief fires gun during Hollister pursuit

Hollister Police and San Benito County Sheriff’s deputies were involved in a pursuit that included gunfire with a suspect who stole a green Corvette, authorities said.

The incident began around 3 p.m. on January 21, when the suspect stole the Corvette in San Jose. The pursuit then reached Hollister, where the suspect abandoned the stolen vehicle on Westside Boulevard. According to a press release from Hollister Police, the driver was armed and engaged with officers before fleeing on foot.

The suspect then stole another vehicle and led police on a second chase that left Hollister. Hollister Police reported that as of approximately 4:30 p.m., the situation remained “dynamic and ongoing” in Santa Clara County. Because of the ongoing investigation, Westside Boulevard remained closed between Central Avenue and Locust Avenue.

Officials emphasized that the incident appeared to be isolated, and there was no ongoing threat to the Hollister community.

According to news reports, after leaving Hollister in the second stolen vehicle, the chase continued into downtown San Jose. The pursuit ended near Julian Street, where the suspect exchanged gunfire with officers, injuring a San Jose Police officer. The suspect was ultimately shot and killed by police.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident. Check back for updates.
