Lake City coalition plans second event centered on mental health, suicide prevention

LAKE CITY, Minn. — The Lake City Suicide Prevention Coalition will host its second Waves of Hope event on Saturday, Jan. 31, at Lincoln High School. This free, public event begins at 1 p.m. with a mental health resource fair.

Following the fair, local musician Ryan Sullivan will deliver a keynote presentation. “Ryan’s story and music resonate deeply with the mission of this event,” coalition member Ariana Wright said in a press release. “He brings authenticity, vulnerability, and hope, creating space for people to feel seen, understood and less alone.”

After Sullivan’s presentation, community members will share their personal experiences with mental health and loss. The panel and audience discussion will be moderated by Erik Sievers, executive director of the Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center. The conversation will focus on practical mental health education, supportive actions community members can take, and pathways to help.

The coalition recommends that attendees be 14 years or older.

Waves of Hope is designed to create a safe, welcoming space where community members can gather, reflect, and learn together. “Through music, personal storytelling and meaningful dialogue, the event aims to reduce stigma around mental health, increase awareness of local supports, and remind individuals and families that help and hope are always within reach,” the press release states.
