QB Jared Goff Fires Back at Critics After Lions’ Week 18 Win Over Bears

Just as they did in Week Two of the 2025 NFL season, the Detroit Lions once again defeated their longtime NFC North rival, the Chicago Bears. Unlike that early-season win, however, Detroit’s most recent victory carried little significance in the standings.

The Lions secured a 19-16 victory over the Bears and former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson thanks to a clutch 42-yard field goal from kicker Jake Bates as time expired in regulation. This kick ended the Bears’ hopes of a dramatic comeback on their home turf.

Despite the final score, Sunday’s game marked the end of the season for the Lions, who were already guaranteed to miss the NFL postseason following their devastating loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Christmas Day. Still, Detroit insisted there was plenty to play for entering the contest.

Quarterback Jared Goff emphasized the team’s mindset immediately after the win. “It’s about pride,” Goff told Tom Rinaldi on the field, standing alongside wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. “The leaders and good players on this team that are going to be here next year, and to come out and play the way we did — it would mean something.”

Goff, who faced criticism for his performances in each of Detroit’s last two losses, delivered a strong outing on Sunday. He led five scoring drives, completing 27 of 42 passes for 331 yards and a touchdown.
