**Investigative Reporter Catherine Herridge Reveals How CBS Executives Blocked the Hunter Biden Laptop Story**
*By Cristina Laila | Jan. 1, 2026*
Investigative reporter Catherine Herridge has revealed how CBS executives blocked the controversial “Hunter Biden laptop from hell” story. Herridge, who previously served as the chief intelligence correspondent for Fox News, joined CBS News in 2019 as a senior investigative correspondent. However, she was fired in 2024 after probing this sensitive story.
Hunter Biden dropped off several damaged laptops at a Delaware computer repair shop run by John Paul Mac Isaac back in 2019. According to Mac Isaac, his life changed that April when a visibly intoxicated Hunter Biden arrived with three damaged MacBook Pro laptops.
One of the laptops was destroyed beyond repair, and Hunter took that one back. Another device required a keyboard, which Mac Isaac loaned to Hunter—but never got back. The third laptop was left with Mac Isaac for repairs. Hunter Biden never returned to retrieve this laptop.
After numerous failed attempts to reach Hunter Biden, John Paul Mac Isaac lawfully took ownership of the abandoned laptop.
In October 2020, The New York Post released what was described as an “October surprise” on Joe Biden’s presidential campaign—emails found on Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop. These emails suggested Hunter was involved in business dealings with foreign countries and allegedly acted as Joe Biden’s bagman in an international influence peddling scheme.
Reflecting on the coverage, Herridge said, “When we did the story, we did it after the [2022] midterms. I argued against that because it was ready before the midterms, and my training is that you should always do the story when it’s ready to go. You should not be dictated by the political cycle.”
Herridge further disclosed that after CBS finally aired the Hunter Biden laptop story—two years after it had become public—several related stories, including one about Joe Biden himself, were spiked by executives. She added that these decisions involved executive and producer overrides, even going against the wishes of CBS CEO George Cheeks.
