Eldridge man arrested after pursuit in Jamestown on Friday

JAMESTOWN An Eldridge, North Dakota, man was arrested Friday evening, Nov. 21, after a pursuit, according to Maj. Justin Blinksky, assistant chief of police for the Jamestown Police Department. Keith Meidinger, 45, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, reckless driving, fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer, and having an open receptacle of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle. He was transported to the Stutsman County Correctional Center to await formal charges. At about 6: 08 p. m. Friday, the Stutsman County Communications Center received a call reporting a possible intoxicated driver, Blinsky said. The caller described a vehicle driving in the wrong lane and swerving on 4th Avenue Northwest, near Sunnyside Trailer Court. The caller was able to identify and safely follow the vehicle until officers could locate it, he said. At about 6: 17 p. m., a Jamestown police officer initiated a traffic stop in the 500 block of 10th Avenue Southeast on the reported vehicle. An officer briefly spoke to the male driver and attempted to initiate an investigation into the driver’s impairment. The driver refused to exit the vehicle and drove off in the 2008 Volvo SUV that he was operating, Blinsky said. Blinsky said Jamestown police pursued the vehicle through the southeast, northeast and northwest parts of Jamestown due to the danger the impaired driver presented to the public. The vehicle continued eluding police, going west on Stutsman County Road 40, outside city limits. The vehicle speeds varied during the pursuit, with top speeds reaching between 50-60 mph, Blinsky said. The vehicle eventually pulled into a farmyard several miles north of Eldridge. Meidinger was taken into custody without further incident, he said. Residents of the farmyard where the pursuit ended did not know Meidinger, Blinsky said. The investigation into this incident is ongoing and further charges are possible, he said.
