The last of the US pennies were minted this week, marking the end of an era after 232 years in circulation. Experts now say these coins could be worth millions when they go up for auction next month, according to a new report.
The final 1-cent coins were minted Wednesday in Philadelphia. In December, these pennies will be auctioned, and the last five coins ever stamped could sell for a whopping $5 million each. This extraordinary value is attributed to a unique omega symbol on the coins, which reflects their special status, USA Today reports.
John Feigenbaum, a rare coin expert, shared his insights with the outlet, stating, “Collectors would go nuts for a modern rarity of business-strike Lincoln cents.” Based on this, Feigenbaum estimates the value of each of the five special coins to be between $2 million and $5 million.
