Lane Kiffin’s Son Gives Telling Update on Coaching Rumors Before Ole Miss-Florida

The Ole Miss Rebels are gearing up for a highly anticipated SEC showdown against the Florida Gators in Gainesville this coming weekend. The intrigue surrounding this matchup is heightened by persistent rumors linking Lane Kiffin to the Florida head coaching vacancy.

Kiffin, the leader of the Ole Miss program, has been connected to nearly every major head coaching job currently available, including positions at LSU, Penn State, and Auburn. Adding a personal perspective to the speculation, Kiffin’s son, Knox Kiffin, a class of 2028 quarterback at Oxford High School, recently spoke about how these rumors have affected his daily life.

“It’s definitely a little bit annoying but I understand, they want to know,” Knox said in a recent interview with Rivals. “I don’t know anything about it and I don’t think he’s really worried about anything. He’s just trying to go to the playoffs.”

This season, Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss hold a strong 9-1 record and are ranked No. 7 in the College Football Playoff standings heading into Saturday’s game against Florida. Despite the swirling coaching rumors, Knox emphasized that his father plans to focus solely on football until the end of the 2025 season.

“I don’t think he’s worried about any of that until after the season,” Knox added.

On the other side of the field, Florida’s program has experienced turbulence, having fired now-former head coach Billy Napier after a disappointing 3-4 start to the 2025 season. The Gators, currently sitting at 3-6, are under the direction of interim head coach Billy Gonzales.

Addressing the rumors about Kiffin’s possible move to Florida, Gonzales shared his thoughts during a Tuesday press conference:

“I have not mentioned it to our staff. I have not mentioned it to our players. Do I read it and am I aware of it? Absolutely. But we’ve got to prepare. And I keep saying this but we’ve got to take care of ourselves, we’ve got to continue to take care and persist.”

Saturday’s Ole Miss vs. Florida game is set to kickoff at 6 p.m. ET. Following this critical matchup, Kiffin and the Rebels will close out their regular-season schedule with a final game against Mississippi State.

Stay tuned for more updates as the college football season progresses.
