Warhorse Studios’ Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has turned a lot of heads this year as an immersive medieval RPG, featuring compelling systems and an engaging story. Now, CD Projekt RED—the renowned studio behind The Witcher series—is working on its own medieval RPG and has made a strategic new hire to aid in the development of The Witcher 4.
Former Warhorse Lead Game Designer Karel Kolmann has officially joined CD Projekt RED, where he’ll serve as Senior Quest Designer. This is a notable pickup for CD Projekt RED, as Kolmann brings a wealth of experience from his work on the Kingdom Come series. Kolmann shared the news on social media this week with a short and sweet message: “I’m happy to share that I’ve joined CD Projekt RED,” his tweet graphic reads. Meanwhile, his LinkedIn profile confirms his new role as Senior Quest Designer at CDPR.
Kolmann played a pivotal role at Warhorse Studios during his eight-year tenure, rising from writer and quest designer to game designer, and finally Lead Game Designer. He was instrumental in the development of Kingdom Come 2’s Hardcore Mode and its innovative law system, demonstrating his talent for crafting challenging and immersive gameplay experiences.
Suffice to say, many of the strengths highlighted in Guides Editor Sam Chandler’s review of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 likely benefited from Kolmann’s expertise. His move to CD Projekt RED suggests exciting things are ahead for The Witcher 4 as the studio taps into his knowledge and passion for storytelling in the medieval RPG genre.
