Sony reports 84.2 million PS5 console units have been sold since launch

The PlayStation 5 continues to be an immensely popular console, with Sony reporting nearly 4 million units sold in the second quarter of its 2025 fiscal year. This brings the lifetime sales total to just over 84 million units.

Sony released its Q2 2025 earnings report earlier than expected on November 10, 2025. The report provided valuable insight into the company’s performance during the quarter, revealing that 3.9 million PlayStation 5 consoles were sold in Q2 alone. This marks a slight increase from the 3.8 million units sold in Q2 of the 2024 fiscal year—a growth of roughly 100,000 units.

A similar trend of gradual growth was seen when comparing sales between Q1 FY2024 and Q1 FY2025, indicating steady demand for the console.

However, the report also noted a decrease in the number of monthly active users on the PlayStation Network, which dropped from 123 million in Q1 to 119 million in Q2. Despite this decline, first-party software sales rose by 1 million compared to Q2 FY2024, highlighting strong engagement with exclusive game titles.

Overall, the PlayStation 5 remains a key driver of Sony’s gaming business, demonstrating continued growth in hardware sales and software performance.
