A New Hampshire man is dead after accidentally falling from a bridge into the Merrimack River, New Hampshire State Police said. On Saturday evening, Jeremiah Willey, 25, apparently accidentally fell from a railroad bridge near Riverside Street and Main Street in Hooksett, and into the Merrimack River, police said in a news release. “A witness observed him struggling to stay above the surface before he submerged and did not resurface,” police wrote. First responders began searching for the victim, an effort spanning “several hours.” Recovery teams used boats and drones to search the water and riverbanks, State Police said. The search was suspended Saturday night and was resumed Sunday morning. Dive teams discovered Willey’s body at around 9: 15 a. m., police said. He was an Allenstown resident, police wrote. The state’s Fish and Game Dive Team, the Hooksett fire and police departments, and the state Chief Medical Examiner all assisted in the search effort, State Police said. The death does not appear to be suspicious, but is still under investigation, police said.
