MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (WLS) — The man who was stabbed to death in northwest Indiana Sunday morning has been identified. The Lake County coroner confirmed the victim as 74-year-old Orell Whitaker of Merrillville.
Officers responded at around 2 a.m. to the 7400-block of Hendricks Street after receiving a 911 call reporting that a woman and her husband were being stabbed. Upon arrival, police saw a suspect exiting the home with his hands up. The suspect was immediately taken into custody.
Whitaker’s wife was transported to Franciscan Health in Crown Point in critical condition. She has since remained stable.
An autopsy was conducted on Whitaker Monday, and officials determined the cause of death to be homicide.
