**Mysterious Amazon Packages Keep Arriving at Elgin Woman’s Doorstep Despite No Account**
*CHICAGO (WLS) —* Imagine receiving dozens of mysterious Amazon packages at your doorstep even though you never ordered anything — and don’t even have an Amazon account. That is the frustrating reality for a 79-year-old woman in Elgin, who says more than 100 packages have shown up at her home since last summer, and she wants it to stop.
The woman reached out to the ABC7 I-Team in hopes of solving the mystery.
The numerous packages currently filling her garage are just a fraction of what has arrived. “It’s not funny, it’s not cute, and I am fed up,” she said.
Despite reporting the issue to Amazon, the deliveries have continued. The labels bear her address but an unfamiliar name — one no one in the neighborhood recognizes — leaving the senior feeling unsettled.
> “If somebody’s going to show up, I’m disabled, alone in the house,” Pat Hurley explained. “And all this is happening. I’m getting a little nervous. You know, I mean, you don’t know what’s going on in this world.”
Her son also expressed concern and confirmed that they first reported the mysterious packages to Amazon earlier this year. At that time, they were advised simply to keep the items, which kept arriving — sometimes up to 20 per day.
> “It became every other day we were coming over here with a dolly, just moving [packages] off the front porch again, back into the garage,” he said.
Some of the packages weigh over 60 pounds.
> “She has a hard time moving, walking,” he added. “She’s weak. She can’t lift, you know, much of anything. It takes her a hard time to even get out of bed in the morning.”
The majority of the packages appear to contain art supplies. The family attempted to donate the items to local schools and charities, but safety concerns prevented acceptance.
When they called Amazon again, the company’s next response was to ask them to remove the shipping codes from every box and file individual claims, then take the packages back for returns.
> “We felt that wasn’t our responsibility,” the son said, prompting them to call the I-Team for help.
> “We didn’t know where else to go, what else to do,” Pat Hurley said. “So we’ve seen you help other people, so we told it to you. I didn’t know what I was going to do.”
ABC7 reached out to Amazon to investigate whether the deliveries might be part of a “brushing scam.” This type of scam involves third-party sellers sending unsolicited products to people who never ordered them, using their addresses to create fake “verified buyer” accounts and write positive reviews to boost product rankings.
Amazon declined to confirm if this case is a brushing scam but stated:
> “We’ve reached out and apologized to Brian and his mother for this experience. We’re investigating and working toward a long-term resolution to prevent this from happening again.”
After the I-Team’s involvement, an Amazon driver reportedly came to pick up the packages just before ABC7 arrived, but left without collecting them because he didn’t want to be on camera.
The family remains hopeful the situation will be resolved soon.
Amazon told the ABC7 I-Team they are in contact with the senior and will arrange another time to retrieve all the packages.
