EXCLUSIVE: Warrior Nun and Continuum creator Simon Barry is in development on detective series Time Of Death, which is part of a slate of projects to emerge from a formalized scripted production deal between Canadian companies Omnifilm and Barry’s Reality Distortion Field. Time Of Death will follow a haunted detective who, after a decade spent chasing Britain’s most elusive serial killer, relocates to Vancouver only to become convinced his old nemesis has resurfaced there. As he dives into new cases in an unfamiliar city, his relentless obsession threatens to pull him back into the darkness he thought he’d escaped. Also on the slate is My Homicide, created by Bruce Ramsay (The Porter), a procedural about a brilliant detective haunted by his wife’s unsolved murder who teams up with an AI version of himself to solve impossible crimes and unravel the mystery that could tear them both apart. Across the shared slate, Reality Distortion Field (RDF) will provide creative oversight while Omnifilm will provide physical production, post-production, production administration and financing. The two companied have hired scripted consultant Alexandra Finlay to help steer the slate. London-based Finlay was most recently VP, Scripted International Co-Productions for A&E. Distribution for the individual projects on the slate will be handled by Canadian and international partners on a per-project basis. “This partnership with Omnifilm allows us to combine creative and production forces in a way that expands what both companies can achieve,” said Reality Distortion Field Principal Simon Barry, who most recently developed Netflix series Bet and has multiple features in the works with producer Uri Singer. “Together, we can shepherd scripted projects from the first spark of an idea all the way through to delivery at the highest level of quality.” Added RDF Principal Stephen Hegyes: “By pairing RDF’s creative development and deep relationships with top writing talent with Omnifilm’s production infrastructure, we’re setting the stage for a truly dynamic collaboration.” Omnifilm partner and CEO Brian Hamilton stated: “Building on almost a decade of close collaboration between our two companies, we see this agreement as a natural extension of our relationship that further leverages the strengths that we each bring to the table.” Alexandra Finlay commented: “Omnifilm and RDF’s partnership strategically merges creative development and deep production expertise. At a time when partnerships are key to reaching global audiences, I’m excited to be collaborating with Simon, Stephen and Brian to drive the slate forward.” RDF has also revealed the departure of its Head of Creative Affairs, Bhavika Mantri, who will be staying on as an executive producer for select projects. “Bhavika’s vision and creative instincts have been integral to RDF’s success,” said Simon Barry. “Her ability to shape stories and support talent has elevated our slate, and we’re thrilled she’ll remain involved in a producing capacity.”.
