The Huskies led the Trailblazers ranked No. 6 in the nation by MaxPreps by six points early in the first period and by two points late in the frame. But Sierra Canyon ramped up its offensive pace and defensive pressure in the final three quarters en route to a 71-50 victory against Orange County’s No. 3-ranked team. “We’re not scared of anything,” said Fairmont Prep forward Sarah Aldeguer, who scored a game-high 22 points and added seven rebounds and five blocks. “We just need to get into more shape.” Sierra Canyon (2-0) closed the first half on a 12-0 run to lead 40-25 at intermission. The Trailblazers punctuated the surge with consecutive 3-pointers from sophomore forward Rosie Oladokun and junior guard Jordyn Malek off turnovers. Sierra Canyon sank seven of its 10 3-pointers in the first half. The Trailblazers opened the third quarter with a 3-pointer by Oladokun off an inbound play to ignited a 7-0 run that pushed the lead to 20 points. “Their 3-point shooting is what really hurt,” Fairmont Prep coach Josh Lozano said of Sierra Canyon, which played without standout senior Jerzy Robinson. UC Irvine signee Delaney White and Oladokun each scored 19 points to pace the Trailblazers. Oladokun had four 3s while White added three. White, a transfer point guard from Oak Park, also was part of a defensive effort that held recent Harvard commit Adyra Rajan to seven points, all in the second half. Fairmont Prep (1-1) received an early 3-pointer from Mirel Haj and didn’t sink another shot from beyond the arc until 45 seconds left in the fourth. Aldeguer, who is committed to Princeton, scored 11 points in the first quarter. Freshman post Aaliyah Mack finished with 13 points and nine rebounds for the Huskies. “We’re feeling good,” Aldeguer said of her team’s outlook for the season. “We’re getting better every day.” Fairmont Prep and Sierra Canyon are both in the Troy Classic, which runs Dec. 1-6.
