Judy Watson Classic EPC Senior Girls best Rivercrest

WILSON EPC spoiled the Judy Watson Classic with a victory over Rivercrest 56-49. Six Lady Warriors scored and EPC launched a barrage outside the arc with six made threes. Cambria Williams took the Watson Player of the Game award with a team-high 15 points in the win. Riley Ashcraft also finished in double figures with 11 points. Armani Facon delivered a strong outing, scoring a game-high 16 points despite the loss. Lakiya Speed chipped in with nine points for the Colts. EPC outscored Rivercrest 16-13 in the first quarter behind five points each from Williams and Kylee Henderson. Speed and Randashia Booker both struck from three-point range in the opening quarter to keep things close. The lead stretched to six points at 21-15 in the second quarter, but Facon hit from behind the arc and Ella Gonzalez dribbled into a floater to pull the Colts closer. Riley Ashcraft responded with a shot from deep and Madison Thomas scored a pair of shots in the paint late in the half to make it a six-point game again at 32-26. EPC pulled ahead by 10 points at the end of the third quarter, as Williams posted six points in the period. The Colts managed just nine points, but Facon matched Williams’ production with five points of her own. Riley Ashcraft hit her third three-pointer of the game as the Warriors led 45-35 going into the final stanza. The Warriors started strong in the fourth quarter, gaining their biggest lead of the game with the score 50-37. The Colts battled back to a seven-point game with just over a minute to play, and Facon scored twice in the last minute, but Williams iced the game when she drove to the rim and scored a layup. Time ran out for the Colts as the Warriors solidified the victory. EPC Head Coach Spencer Harston saw room for improvement despite the win. “I don’t know that we were better prepared for the physicality of the game, but we had a little more size. We’ve got a player who’s six-foot tall and another who’s almost six-foot. The Colts had a strong interior presence, though. We did a good job fighting through contact, but we’ve got to stop turning the ball over so much. We were able to pull this one out, but that’s got to change for us to continue winning.”.
