Don’t mutilate kids: Science confirms common sense on ‘gender-affirming care’

Providing hormone therapy, surgery and other permanently life-altering treatments to kids who identify as transgender has no medical or scientific basis: “Gender-affirming care” is simply a fuzzy label for monstrous practices. Yes, monstrous: How else to describe the surgical and chemical mutilation of children? That’s our takeaway from the final, peer-reviewed federal report released Wednesday; the authors of the government scientific document put it more gently. Crucially, they give critics of the draft report, which exposed the studies used to justify “gender-affirming care” as “very low quality,” ample opportunity to challenge their research and findings; none of them could, just as their allies couldn’t lay a glove on the UK’s similar Cass Review. Activist ideologues will insist that, since it was President Donald Trump who ordered up this Department Health and Human Services study, it’s just a political document; not so. Pursuant to Trump’s executive order, HHS recruited nine independent experts. mostly Democratic academics, to review the existing literature; all they did was set aside the political fog that had previously concealed the truth. Frankly, it’s always been common sense: Notice how, for example, social-media make-up icon Jeffree Star called out the obvious truth that children are just too young to choose their gender. On the Skinny Confidential podcast, Star ripped parents who shove these concepts in kids faces way too early as “f-king weirdos.” “Why are we encouraging our kids to be a different gender and feed them false information when they’re so young?” he told The Him and Her show hosts. “Gender-affirming care” was always anti-science and anti-common sense; only convoluted ideology could make it seem humane. Adults may make their own decisions, but kids usually grow out of gender confusion or dysphoria; counselling is called for, not mutilation posing as medicine. The advocates won’t give up in the face of this report, but at least real science is winning.
