Mistakes plague Golden Knights, fall once again in OT to Wild

Overtime continues to be a boogeyman for the 2025-26 Vegas Golden Knights. On Sunday, the Golden Knights dropped their sixth of seven overtime games this season, falling to the Minnesota Wild 3-2 at Grand Casino Arena.

The first five minutes were a far cry from what they showed in St. Louis, and the Wild cashed in first. Mats Zuccarello put Vegas goaltender Carl Lindbom well out of position, and the veteran capitalized by finding Joel Eriksson Ek for an easy first goal of the game.

The Golden Knights would find their way back, however, thanks to a power play that has seemed to find its rhythm again. Mitch Marner found some room to skate with the puck and fired a shot at Wild goaltender Filip Gustavsson. The rebound found Pavel Dorofeyev all alone, and he made no mistake at close range, scoring his 11th goal of the season.

Midway through the second period, the Wild took advantage of another mistake from Lindbom. A bad bounce got the best of the rookie netminder, allowing Yakov Trenin to notch his first goal of the season and give Minnesota the lead once again.

Needing a push in the third period, the Golden Knights capitalized on the power play once more. Reilly Smith tied the game with a blast from the left faceoff circle, marking his second goal in three games.

After the last ten minutes failed to decide the outcome, the teams headed into overtime, securing the third point for the Golden Knights during this quick weekend trip. It would be the only point they earned, however, as Kirill Kaprizov took advantage of a late penalty to give the Wild the overtime victory.

Lindbom continues to search for his first NHL win in his five games played so far, putting up an impressive 24 saves on 27 shots.

The Golden Knights will return home with three more points in tow, hoping to turn their fortunes around against the New York Rangers on Tuesday.
