The Pittsburgh Riverhounds secured a 1-0 victory over Rhode Island FC on Saturday, clinching the Eastern Conference Final. The match drew a record crowd, with 6,745 fans filling Highmark Stadium.
Midfielder Robbie Mertz scored the game’s lone goal, propelling the Riverhounds into the USL Championship Final. The final is scheduled for noon on Saturday, November 22.
The Riverhounds will face the winner of Saturday’s match between FC Tulsa and New Mexico United. Notably, the winner of that game will host the league final.
This appearance marks the first time the Riverhounds have reached the Eastern Conference Final since the USL Championship adopted its current format in 2016. It is also the team’s first time advancing to the final four in the second division of U.S. soccer.
