One upcoming FOX series has experienced a major shakeup behind the scenes before it has even aired. *Memory of a Killer*, a new thriller drama starring Patrick Dempsey, has replaced its showrunners.
Although six episodes of the first ten-episode season have already been filmed, the show’s three co-showrunners—Ed Whitmore, Tracey Malone, and David Schulner—have stepped down. They have been replaced by Glenn Kessler (*Damages*, *Bloodline*) and Aaron Zelman (*Lucky Hank*, *Resurrection*).
*Memory of a Killer* is an adaptation of the 2003 Belgian film *De Zaak Alzheimer*. Filming was paused early on to catch up on script writing, even before the showrunner change was announced.
The series centers on a hitman, played by Patrick Dempsey, who leads a dangerous double life while trying to keep an even bigger secret: he has been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. Michael Imperioli and Gina Torres also star in the show.
According to *Deadline*, Kessler was initially involved as a consulting producer. When FOX asked Zelman to take over showrunning duties, he requested to co-lead the series alongside Kessler. The two share extensive experience working together, as Zelman collaborated with Kessler and Kessler’s brother Glenn on FX’s *Damages* and Netflix’s *Bloodline*.
Despite the delays in script development and the showrunner switch, *Memory of a Killer* is still scheduled to premiere this January.
