Jason Whitlock Criticizes NFL as Shedeur Sanders Greets Rapper and Former Prisoner Max B on Browns-Jets Sideline
Veteran sports commentator Jason Whitlock sparked controversy after the Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders was seen greeting rapper and former prisoner Max B on the sideline during Sunday’s Browns-Jets game. Whitlock reposted a video of the greeting on X (formerly Twitter) and expressed his disdain toward the NFL for giving a platform to Max B.
“Hours after being released from prison after serving a long sentence for murder/manslaughter, Max B gets a warm greeting from Shedeur Sanders on the sideline of the Browns game. NFL ‘platforms’ Bad Bunny and Max B. What a world,” Whitlock tweeted.
Max B served a lengthy prison sentence on charges related to manslaughter and robbery before his release in 2024. Whitlock has previously criticized the NFL and the artist Bad Bunny regarding the league’s choice for the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show. He accused the NFL of promoting values he described as “anti-Christian.”
“The league was using the halftime stage as a tool to promote demonic worship, demonic energy, gayness, transgenderism, anything that defiles Jesus Christ,” Whitlock said in September. He further questioned NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s vision for the league, asking, “Need to ask Roger Goodell, how far is this going to go? Will Satan personally receive an invitation to perform at halftime next year?”
Shedeur Sanders Reunites with Family, Delivers Defiant Message Amid Challenging Season
During the Cleveland Browns’ bye week, rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders traveled back to Colorado to reunite with his father, Buffaloes head coach Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders, and his brother, Deion Sanders Jr. It has been a difficult year for the Sanders family. Shedeur was selected in the fifth round of April’s NFL Draft, his brother Shilo went undrafted, and the University of Colorado Buffaloes missed a bowl game for the second consecutive season.
At the Buffaloes-West Virginia Mountaineers game on Saturday, Shedeur and Deion Jr. wore shirts emblazoned with the message, “The Rejected Will Be Respected.” The slogan represented their response to public criticism and professional setbacks. Deion Jr., who manages the family’s media ventures, posted the moment online with the caption, “Rejected.”
Shedeur’s visit came shortly after he was named the Browns’ backup quarterback for Week 10 against the New York Jets. Coach Prime shared his emotional reaction to their reunion: “For him to take a jet to come here and see pops, I was in tears. We didn’t show that part, but it got me, it touched me.”
Despite struggling with lingering back issues, Shedeur continues to prepare for his NFL debut amid Cleveland’s disappointing 2-6 start to the season and inconsistent play from starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel.
