WEST LAFAYETTE — Trey Kaufman-Renn’s return to Purdue men’s basketball lineup remains uncertain. Boilermakers coach Matt Painter said after an 87-77 victory over Oakland that his star forward did not participate in a full walkthrough on Friday afternoon. Kaufman-Renn had been limited to non-contact work during the previous two days.
Painter noted that an X-ray performed on Wednesday came back negative. He also mentioned that Kaufman-Renn underwent an MRI before Friday’s game, but he had not yet received the results. Painter took this as a positive sign, indicating at least no bad news so far.
“In our shootaround, he did a couple of things, then he said it was still bothering him,” Painter said.
Although Kaufman-Renn was listed as questionable and considered a game-time decision, he did not participate in the team shootaround about 90 minutes prior to tipoff. While the rest of the team came out in uniform for full pregame warmups, Kaufman-Renn appeared in shorts and a hoodie.
In his absence, Jack Benter stepped into the starting lineup, contributing 11 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Additionally, Liam Murphy came off the bench to score 11 points in 11 minutes.
