Mark Sanchez has been permanently sidelined at Fox Sports. The former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports analyst has been fired by the network following an alleged attack on a truck driver last month in Indianapolis.
“We can confirm that Mark Sanchez is no longer with the network,” a Fox Sports spokesperson told Deadline. “There will be no further comment at this time.”
Sanchez was charged with a felony and three misdemeanors after an altercation on October 4, in which truck driver Perry Tole, age 69, and Sanchez, age 38, fought in an alley between two Indianapolis hotels. The fight led to Sanchez being stabbed, while Tole suffered “significant and very severe injuries,” according to Marion County prosecutor Ryan Mears.
Tole has also filed a civil suit against Sanchez and Fox Sports’ parent company, Fox Corporation.
Sanchez has been off the air since the incident and remains free on bond as he awaits a trial scheduled for December 11. If convicted, he could face one to six years in prison. After being booked on October 12, Sanchez declined to discuss the allegations, stating that he was focused on his recovery.
In related news, Fox Sports announced on Friday that Super Bowl-winning quarterback Drew Brees will be joining the network as a game analyst. Brees will replace Sanchez on the broadcast team alongside Adam Amin and Kristina Pink starting in Week 11, according to ESPN.
“I appreciate the opportunity Fox has given me in the booth and with their team,” Brees said in a statement. “I hope my passion for this game is reflected in the knowledge and insights I provide to the fans each Sunday.”
