More British private schools are establishing campuses abroad in a bid to drive revenue, at a time when cost pressures at home are rising.
In the UK, fee-paying schools educate just 7% of the population. However, this small cohort includes many political leaders, Nobel laureates, and members of the upper echelons of society. Traditionally, families from around the world have aspired to send their children to the UK for this elite education.
Now, more options than ever are available closer to home. The boom in British-international schools has been described as both “recent and large” by the Private Education Policy Forum think-tank.
To put this growth into perspective, British private schools had 51 satellite campuses abroad in 2017-18. By 2024-25, that number is projected to have trebled to 151.
Bloomberg Radio’s Tiwa Adebayo recently joined Joumanna Bercetche to discuss this emerging trend.
