Civilization has received a significant update this week, bringing major improvements to sea gameplay along with a free expansion pack for players to enjoy.
The general update revamps various aspects of naval experience, including combat, resource gathering, spawning, and navigation. Firaxis Games also launched the Tides of Power Collection, a free expansion pack available to claim until January 2026.
With the release of Civilization 7 Update 1.3, water gameplay has been overhauled extensively. The update introduces new mechanics for water tiles and their resources, as well as enhanced navigation options. Coastal tiles have been heavily revamped to provide more rewarding outputs. Additionally, the Privateer unit — accessible by all civilizations — now plays a crucial role in early gameplay by attacking, defending, and plundering trade routes.
These changes set the stage perfectly for the Tides of Power Collection, which adds the infamous pirate Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard, to the game. Players can also start as the Republic of Pirates civilization, bringing fresh strategies and excitement.
Moreover, new leaders and civilizations join the mix, including Sayyida al Hurra and the Ottomans, alongside Iceland and Tonga. The expansion also introduces four brand-new Wonders to discover and build.
While the Tides of Power Collection will cost $30 after January 5, 2026, all current Civilization 7 owners can claim it for free on their platform of choice until then. This generous offer is Firaxis’s way of thanking the dedicated community that has supported Civ 7 so far.
Be sure to grab your free copy and dive into the enhanced world of Civilization 7’s seas before the offer ends!
