CINCINNATI — Caleb Williams connected with Colston Loveland for a 58-yard touchdown with just 17 seconds left, leading the Chicago Bears to a thrilling 47-42 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. The wild game featured three touchdowns in the final two minutes and two lead changes in the last minute.
After Joe Flacco put the Bengals ahead 42-41 with a 9-yard touchdown pass to Andrei Iosivas, Chicago took over on its own 28-yard line with 54 seconds remaining. Four plays later, on first down from the 42, Williams found Loveland down the middle. The rookie tight end caught the ball at the Bengals’ 36, bounced off Cincinnati defensive backs Jordan Battle and Geno Stone, and raced into the end zone. This touchdown secured Chicago’s fifth win in six games.
Williams passed for 280 yards and three touchdowns. In addition to his passing performance, he caught a touchdown pass from D.J. Moore on a trick play for the Bears’ first score. Later, he also hauled in a 20-yard reception from Tyson Bagent, becoming the first starting quarterback in nearly 82 years to have multiple receptions in a single game.
On the Bengals’ side, 40-year-old Joe Flacco was impressive despite a recent shoulder injury that kept him out of practice earlier in the week. He completed 30 of 44 passes for a career-high 470 yards and four touchdowns. However, despite scoring at least 30 points, Cincinnati lost for the second straight week and for the sixth time dating back to last season.
Notably, the Bengals had not allowed 40 or more points in a loss since falling 51-45 to Cleveland on September 16, 2007.
