ESPN, ABC exit YouTube TV

If you, like me, are a YouTube TV subscriber, you probably woke up on Friday to find that all Disney-owned channels are suddenly gone from the service.

After successfully negotiating deals with Fox in August and Comcast in September, YouTube TV was unable to strike a new agreement with the company that owns ESPN, ABC, and several other popular channels. As a result, these channels have been removed from the platform.

This means no ESPN or ABC college football coverage on Saturday, and no Monday Night Football broadcasts. This week’s game is Cardinals vs. Cowboys, and next week it’s Eagles vs. Packers—two matchups avid sports fans will miss watching on YouTube TV.

As usual, both sides will blame each other for the impasse. Meanwhile, consumers find themselves caught in the middle, forced to seek out the content they want through other means.

Here’s hoping the dispute gets resolved soon. Until then, who’s right or wrong doesn’t really matter—the public is the one getting the short end of the stick.
