PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — A jury on Wednesday convicted an Illinois sheriff’s deputy of second-degree murder, a lesser charge, in the shooting death of Sonya Massey, a Black woman who had called 911 to report a suspected prowler.
Sean Grayson could face a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, or possibly probation.
California became the first state to ban most law enforcement officers, including federal immigration agents, from covering their faces while conducting official business under a bill signed Saturday by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

This follows the courtesy resignation of the agency’s director general.
