Vivienne Medrano Discusses the Possibility of a Live-Action Adaptation for Hazbin Hotel
Following the premiere of Hazbin Hotel’s highly anticipated second season, creator Vivienne Medrano opened up about one of the series’ most exciting potential developments—a live-action adaptation. While promoting the release of the show’s second season on Amazon Prime Video, which debuted with two new episodes on October 29, 2025, Medrano shared her vision for bringing the Hellaverse into a different medium.
Hazbin Hotel’s second season comes on the heels of significant success, with the series already renewed for seasons three and four after a theatrical sing-along event earlier this year, as reported by ComicBook.com. This growing popularity has naturally sparked fan interest in expanding the brand beyond animation.
When asked about the possibility of a live-action version, Medrano expressed enthusiasm—but with a unique twist. “I think for sure that Hazbin Hotel as a series only works in animation,” she explained. “I’m not the biggest fan of taking something into live-action unless there’s a reason to. What I could see and what I would love to see is a stage adaptation.”
She described a theatrical production as an ideal fit for the show’s tone, saying, “I think a stage musical set in this universe or about these characters would be the coolest thing, especially since it could be its own thing.”
Medrano elaborated on how live theater could capture the essence of Hazbin Hotel’s musical and emotional aspects. “A play could humanize these characters in ways that make sense visually, but also just have the element of musical theater, since that’s what the show is,” she noted. “There’s a degree of separation where you allow yourself to step into a fantasy when you’re watching a musical. I think that’s something that would translate pretty well.”
As season two continues to roll out, Amazon Prime Video will release two episodes weekly, totaling eight by the end of the year, with work already underway on future seasons. Additionally, Medrano confirmed that Helluva Boss remains an integral part of Amazon’s expanding Hellaverse lineup, promising more content for fans to look forward to.
With the show’s unique style and engaging characters, Medrano’s vision for a live stage musical adaptation offers an exciting new dimension for the Hazbin Hotel universe—one that could bring its unforgettable charm and creativity to life in an entirely new way.
